What is this study called?

A Multimodal Learning Analytics Approach Towards Learner Dashboard Designs for Better Engagement and Metacognitive Regulation (LADDER)

What does this study aim to do?
Develop a multimodal learning analytics measure for engagement and a learning dashboard that gives students feedback about their learning online.

When?
Until 29 August 2025, Mondays to Fridays, between 10am to 6pm.

Where?
Online (via Zoom)
Or other suitable venues, including National Institute of Education (NIE), 1Nanyang Walk, Singapore 637616

What would you have to do?
  • You will use a computer to view content and answer questions on English and/or Science learning. 
  • You will complete surveys and may be interviewed about your experience.
  • You will be video-recorded and your interactions on the learning system tracked.
  • It will last between 45 minutes to 1 hour. 

What will you get?
  • You will be a participant in a cutting-edge project to improve learning for others.
  • You will also be given a $10 voucher to thank you for your time.
FAQs
  • Participation in the study is voluntary. You may refuse to participate or leave the study at any time.
  • The risk is minimal as you will be participating in your typical role as a student.
  • The data will be securely maintained using NIE/NTU's secure data infrastructure. All identifiable data will be password-protected.
  • All data collected from will be kept strictly confidential. We will not reveal any identifying information about you unless you have given consent to do so.
  • All data that is collected will be anonymized for dissemination. Video data will be pixelated/masked before final storage/transfer.
  • You will be given the option to release your unmasked video recordings for presentations and publications of this project as well as future research and shared repositories to maximize the impact of your contribution. You will be allowed to review your data first before deciding.
  • The study has undergone a stringent ethical procedure to ensure that it follows the standard of ethics required of any institution doing research with children. Consent will be sought from all participants. Parental consent is required for participants under 21 years old.
